Paragliding in Lanzarote
Winter is the time for Paragliding in Lanzarote.
When the light winter breezes kick in and northern Europe is cold, raining and maybe even snowing then its time to fly south. Lanzarote has numerous flying spots on offer for all levels of Paraglider pilot.
Paragliding in Lanzarote is becoming more popular every year. As the sport grows and the equipment gets better more and more people are feeling confident enough to fly in new destinations.
Lanzarote is a very easy place to Paraglide as long as you take good note of the wind speed. The wind in Lanzarote can get stronger quite quickly so a little care needs to be taken.
These days with Paragliders flying faster and being more stable stronger winds are not as big a problem as they once were.
There are plenty of flying sites in Lanzarote to suit every wind direction. Even when the winds are stronger there is often a place to fly or pilots fly in the morning or evening.
Some popular Paragliding sites in Lanzarote are (in order of popularity):-
Teguise (the famara ridge run) - this needs a NNW to N wind. there is a low and high take off. Low take off is good for stronger wind days. Often the wind is much less away from the ridge
Mala - NE wind. Nice thermic site with good cross country options
Orzola - Another good site when strong winds are elsewhere. Takes a NE wind.
La Asomada - SE wind. Small but fun hill. Top landing.
El Cuchillo - N to NE wind. Get thermic and bumpy in mid day. Great for smooth evening and morning soaring.
